Remo Stars Slip Up in Title Race

Date:

Ikenne-based side, Remo Stars slipped to a 3-2 defeat in the hands of Lobi Stars in the matchday thirty-five of the ongoing NPFL season. Remo Stars remain third on the log with three points over Shooting Stars who lost their own match against Rivers United away from home.

Lobi Stars took a two-goal lead in the first half with Christian Aniche and Chinedu Sunday Chukwu scoring in the 6th and 38th respectively, however, coach Daniel Ogunmodede had to replace Habib Yakub and Isaac James with Olamilekan Adams and Alimi Sikiru due to injury concerns.

The move would pay off for Daniel Ogunmodede as Sikiru made an instant impact only seconds after coming on to score just before the stroke of half time to halve the deficit going into the break.

The match wore on and Remo Stars continued to threaten with chances after chances, however, it was Lobi Stars who added their third goal through Stanly Chukwudi Oganbor four minutes before the ninety-minute mark, but it would not last long before the lead would be cut down again just three minutes later when Chinedu Sunday Chukwu who scored the seciond goal in the first half turned the ball into his own net.

Lobi Stars were able to see out the game and condemned the challengers to a defeat that puts a heavy stain on their title credentials at a crucial moment in the season.

The title crdeibility could be still be tested depending on the outcome of the game between Rivers United and Enyimba which was abandoned and awaits a decision from the league board. Enugu Rangers are still the table toppers, level on points with Remo Stars coming third with two points less, having played a game more.
