Remo Stars ambitions for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title suffered a major blow following a 3-2 defeat to Lobi Stars in Lafia.
Lobi Stars took control early in the match, with Christian Izuchukwu opening the scoring in the sixth minute.
Chinedu Chukwu doubled the home team’s lead just seven minutes before halftime, putting Remo Stars on the back foot.
Sikiru Alimi gave Remo Stars a glimmer of hope by reducing the deficit two minutes before the break. However, Stanley Oganbor restored Lobi Stars’ two-goal advantage five minutes before full time, making the task even more difficult for the visitors.
The match ended on a dramatic note when Chukwu inadvertently scored an own goal two minutes from time, setting up a nervy finish.
The Sky Blue Warriors couldn’t find an equalizer, leaving them to reflect on a missed opportunity in their quest for the NPFL title. They remain third on the table with 59 points, 3 points behind the table leader, Enugu Rangers.
