Rivers Angels head coach Edwin Okon was utterly satisfied after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ibom Angels in the final of the Aiteo Cup, reports Footballlive.ng.
The Jewel of Rivers vaulted to the title thanks to Juliet Sunday’s solitary strike at the Samson Siasia Stadium on Tuesday.
“As of today, Rivers Angels are the best team in the Nigeria Women’s Football,” Edwin Okon said to Footballlive.ng. “I’m very proud of this win and the fact the players are buying into the system.”
The ex-Super Falcons boss lauded the overall performance of Sunday, who has quietly grown into a multifaceted star.
“She [Sunday] is fundamental for us to develop our game and not only disrupts the opponents, but also generates scoring opportunities.”
“Her generosity and constant effort helps us in many ways other than goals,” the coach said.
Regarding the team’s status in the Nigeria Women’s Premier League season, Okon declared he remains hopeful Rivers Angels will compete until the end of the season.
“The key for us is to build our own identity.
“We cannot play scared, so we must seek to dominate the game and think about our rival’s goal.
“There will be missteps along the way, but we must keep working hard.”
“Having the team click in such a short period of time exceeds even the most optimistic of expectations.”
