The initially expected late invitations of Musa Mohammed, Stephen Eze and Blessing Eleke to the Super Eagles’ camp for Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles might not take place after all, as coach of the side, Gernot Rohr has opted against the decision.
In contrast with initial reports that Rohr had already approved late invitations for Eze, Mohammed and Eleke to fill in for the withdrawn trio of William Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina and Alex Iwobi, the Franco-German appears to have taken a volte face.
This is sequel to comments from an Eagles’ camp insider, who hinted early Wednesday that Rohr has decided not to name replacements for Iwobi, who is out with illness, as well as the injured duo of Troost-Ekong and Aina ahead of Saturday’s AFCON 2019 qualifier.
Though Rohr named Eze, Mohammed and Eleke alongside Uche Agbo in a standby list for Saturday’s match, he has now decided that the places of Iwobi, Aina, and Troost-Ekong will no longer be filled.
The often credible source disclosed: “There will be no replacements for the players who pulled out of the squad.”
