Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has admitted he will have to be careful with those among his players who recently battled injuries, as he has to be sure about their full fitness before releasing his final list for the World Cup.
Rohr admitted it would not be wise to go to Russia 2018 with any player that would not be able to play, hence his move to arrange personal drills with each of the recovered players.
The Franco-German tactician said he will have to do some training routine for some set of players who are returning from injury or did not get enough playing time at their respective clubs this past season.
The like of Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City), Tyronne Ebuehi (ADO Den Haag), Leon Balogun (Mainz) and Joel Obi (Torino) fall under the category of players.
The tactician was really impressed with the turnout at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium for Tuesdayevening’s friendly between the Super Eagles and Europa League winners Atletico Madrid and praised the Uyo fans, saying he didn’t expect the support from the fans.
Asked if he would consider some players that impressed against the La Liga outfit in future national team matches, Rohr said he has taken notice of the very young talents in the Super Eagles B.
Rohr also said that that was the first time he was in Uyo and wasn’t on the bench performing coaching duties, and was not feeling the pressure and the emotions and it was a nice experience for him.
Rohr has taken a leaf out of Joachim Low’s book, with the national team players wearing GPS trackers before the start of the training session (see photo).
That small device was instrumental to the success of Germany winning the 2014 World Cup, Low decided to introduce Mario Gotze, who netted the winning goal, as a substitute over other options based on GPS data.
The GPS data will measure how the Super Eagles players perform in training games, the number of changes in direction, cardiac frequency variable that is monitoring of their heartbeats.
Rohr will be able to compare the players in camp and the information will assist him to know a player’s level while with the national team
