Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr is singing lofty praises for the array of young players he had in his squad for the matches against Seychelles and Liberia, with a strong hint that they will all get more opportunities.
In the wake of a 3-0 spanking of Seychelles in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers last Saturday and 2-1 win away to Liberia in an exhibition match on Tuesday, Rohr says he was satisfied with what he saw from the younger lads.
The Franco-German gaffer singled out SC Paderborn of Germany left-back, Jamilu Collins and Bordeaux’s Samuel Kalu, with a hint that they will both get another chance against Libya in October.
Collins missed Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles after failing a late fitness test but recovered to play in Tuesday’s exhibition match against Liberia which Nigeria won 2-1.
The Paderborn left full back appears to have impressed Rohr, as the Franco-German coach named him alongside Kalu among some of the new faces he believes will add competition to the team for their future engagements.
Rohr said: “The new players in the team did well in training and also the ones who played in the game against Seychelles were also very good and for our team it is good to have competition.
“Collins, Ajayi and Kalu all did well and we will continue to monitor their progress with their club before the next game.
“Collins looks interesting in training and we will like to have him around again. When we regroup in October we will see them against the regular players.
“By the 10th of October, we will recover our injured players like (William) Ekong, like Ola Aina, Obi Mikel will be fit also.”
