Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has declared that he and his players are jet two matches away from picking a ticket to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, footballlive.ng can report.
Although the team still have four matches to play in Group E of the qualifies for AFCON 2019 – two against Libya as well as one each versus Seychelles and South Africa – Rohr said all his side need are two wins.
The Franco-German gaffer reckoned that victories at home against Libya on Saturday and away in Sfax, Tunisia on Tuesday would virtually seal the ticket to Cameroon 2019, as their fifth match of the race will be at home with Seychelles and they end the contest away to South Africa.
Rohr reasoned that the Eagles would have an unassailable lead ahead of Libya by beating The Mediterranean Knights home and away, which would then leave them only with South Africa to deal with, should Bafana Bafana also beat Seychelles in their two fixtures next week.
Rohr, though, appears confident that South Africa will again drop points against Seychelles, as they did at home with Libya last time out, which would leave the Eagles with a clear path to Cameroon 2019 should they win their upcoming couple of fixtures against Libya.
“We need the points now; we cannot pretend about that. If we pick the points in these two games, we will be very close to the AFCON ticket.
“I believe we have the players here to earn a decent result and then go and give their all in Libya for another credible outcome.
“It was good winning in Seychelles the way we did. We got the result we needed and it should serve as a good motivation to continue winning when we play Libya,” Rohr submitted.
