Ronwen Williams Reflects on Difficulty Replicating Penalty Heroics Against Super Eagles

Date:

South African goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, has reflected on the difficulty he faced replicating his penalty-saving performance against the Super Eagles in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final.

After saving four out of five penalties against DR Congo in the quarter-final, Williams expressed confidence but was unable to save any penalties against Nigeria.

He mentioned that he attempted to unsettle Nigeria’s penalty takers by sharing information but acknowledged that his plan did not work as intended.

Despite the challenges, the Super Eagles won the shootout 4-2 to advance to the final, where they lost 2-1 to Ivory Coast.
