Rwanda head coach, Torsten Spittler, believes his team could have won their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Nigeria.
The clash ended in a 0-0 draw on Tuesday at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
Nigeria came into the game with a strong 3-0 win over Benin and had a star-filled and international squad.
However, Spittler before the match was confident his team could get a positive result.
Rwanda put up a tough fight, keeping Nigeria from scoring, though the Super Eagles created more chances and had more attempts on goal.
After the match, Rwanda’s players were pleased with the draw. However, Spittler felt they missed an opportunity to win.
“We lack a top-level striker with Rwandan roots who can come in and make a real difference. That’s something we need to address moving forward,” Spittler remarked.
Rwanda will next face Benin in a double-header in October, while Nigeria will play their final qualifier in November.
