New arrival at Perugia of Italy, Sadiq Umar has admitted that the deal taking him from AS Roma to his latest base is a consolation for him in the remaining part of the season.
Umar is happy with the opportunity to continue playing in the season, after failing to click in the first half during a similar loan spell at Glasgow Rangers of Scotland, and says he is determined to make the best of it.
Footballlive.ng reports further that the Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medalist, with Nigeria’s under-23 national team, is equally happy that Roma agreed to allow him another loan option after The Gers’ fiasco.
The Kaduna-born lanky lad admitted his delight, after both clubs struck an agreement that will keep him in Umbria till this campaign ends.
The product of Abuja Football College has been on contract at Roma since 2015 but has not been able to break into The Giallorossi’s first team, hence previous loans to Bologna, Torino, NAC Breda and Rangers.
However, during his time at Rangers, the 21-year-old lad made only four appearances before his loan spell was cut short by The Gers, due to his lack of first-team capabilities.
Umar, who began his career in Italy during the 2013-2014 season in Serie D with Lavagnese before joining SC Spezia in Serie B the following year, said he will use the stint at Perugia to show his capabilities.
Umar stated on social media: “I am happy with another opportunity to prove what I can do in Italy. Italy is the place for me. Thanks to God.”
