Samuel Chukwueze has opened up about his difficult start at AC Milan following his transfer from Villarreal last season.
The Nigerian winger struggled to secure a consistent spot in the starting lineup, with former manager Stefano Pioli favoring Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic.
Chukwueze admitted that his late arrival at the club, just before the season began, made it challenging to impress Pioli.
“I arrived late, at the end of July. It was a bit difficult to convince him [Pioli]; the player in my position was scoring goals,” Chukwueze said in an interview. Despite the challenges, he praised Pioli as a “fantastic guy and a great coach.”
In his debut season with AC Milan, Samuel Chukwueze made 24 appearances, contributing one goal and three assists.
