Senegal winger Krepin Diatta has caught the public’s eye with his words following his nation’s exit from the AFCON.
Senegal lost to Ivory Coast on penalties after a 1-1 draw in 120 minutes of open-play football. Nottingham Forest’s Moussa Niakhate was the only one who failed to score during the shootout sequence.
After the game, Diatta hurled harsh words at CAF staff present at the stadium. The 24-year-old reportedly said:
“You have killed us. You are corrupt. Keep your African Cup.”
The Monaco winger went further to refer to an incident during the game where defender Odilon Kossounou appeared to have fouled Ismaila Sarr in the danger area, but the referee did not award a spot kick.
Diatta added by saying:
“You go to the VAR to give them a penalty, while our guy (Sarr) picks up the ball 40 meters from goal, goes on a run into the box, and you don’t want to go to the VAR?
“I’m sorry, but that is going too far. I am really sorry, but they have killed our competition.”
