Bursaspor of Turkey defender, Shehu Abdullahi has given a grant of N200, 000 to his youth days club, Sokoto United, despite their elimination from the Federation Cup, footballlive.ng has gathered.
Abdullahi had promised the lads N100,000 for each goal they could score in the game against his last league club in Nigeria, Kano Pillars, but the minnows fell to the former champions.
However, rather than scold Sokoto United for their loss to Pillars, Abdullahi says he will still rain cash on his home city club for their gallant efforts in the competition.
Abdullahi, who also congratulated Kano Pillars for their victory, stated on social media that he also hopes Sokoto United will gain promotion to Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) next season.
He posted: “Congratulations Kano Pillars for the victory over Sokoto United in the Aiteo Cup. Oh! Home team lost 2-0. Wishing Sokoto United success in the Nigeria National League.
“I hope they pick one of the tickets to the NPFL. In spite of not scoring against Pillars, I am giving out N200,000 to the team.”
