Former Newcastle United striker, Shola Ameobi has joined in raining accolades on Arsenal’s in-form attacker, Alex Iwobi for a defence piercing pass that led to The Gunners’ lone goal against Liverpool.
Iwobi, who has been in top form of recent for club and country, added another virtuoso performance to help Arsenal eke out a 1-1 draw at home against The Reds on Saturday, from which footballlive.ng can reveal that Ameobi described the Super Eagles’ star’s assist as a ‘good pass’ that helped Alexandre Lacazette score.
Ameobi, who starred for the Eagles at Brazil 2014 World Cup, singled out Iwobi for a job well done in setting up Lacazette for the goal, but went on to shower more words on the French star for a turnaround of his fortunes at Emirates Stadium.
Ameobi was all smiles, after Lacazette grabbed a vital equaliser for Arsenal against Liverpool on Saturday, with his fifth Premier League goal of the season.
James Milner put the visitors ahead after a poor clearance from Arsenal goalkeeper, Bernd Leno, but Iwobi assisted Lacazette’s goal in the 82nd minute with a delectable pass that caught Ameobi’s fancy.
Ameobi gloated: “Great finish from Lacazette. Great run, great ball by Iwobi and a fantastic finish.
“I think it’s because he’s playing week in week out. I don’t think that happened last season, I think he was in and out.
“As a striker it’s important to have that run of games, to know that the manager believes in you.
“I think he’s really got that now under the new manager. You’re just seeing the quality that he’s got.”
