Shola Ameobi Sacked At Notts County

Former Newcastle United icon, Shola Ameobi will be in the hunt for another club this summer, following the decision by English League Two club, Notts County to sack him.

The former Super Eagles forward has been released by Notts along with ten others, due to perceived inability of the club to pay for their services.

The 36-year-old, who is also out of contract at the club, tops a list of 11 players were let go by the side following their failed promotion bid to League One.

Those released along with Ameobi are Adam Collin, Carl Dickinson, Mike Edwards, Jonathan Forte, Elliot Hodge, Nicky Hunt, Rob Milsom, Callum Saunders, Alan Smith, Curtis Thompson.

Ameobi made 53 appearances for the club in all competition and hit the back of the net ten times during his two-year spell with Notts County since his arrival from Fleetwood Town.

Ameobi also previously featured for Premier League clubs Crystal Palace, Stoke City, Championship side Bolton Wanderers and Turkish club, Gazisehir Gaziantep, and was part of Nigeria’s squad for 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The Magpies’ boss, Kevin Nolan said “These decisions are some of the hardest, if not the hardest, we make.

“I would like to put on record my thanks to all of the players who are moving on and wish them all the best for their future.

“I can’t thank the lads enough for their committed efforts in my first full season here.”
