Former Super Eagles striker and coach, Samson Yebowei Siasia has added his voice to suggestions on how the Nigerian team can overcome Libya in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and says the right approach is to study the opponents very well.
Siasia stated during a radio interview monitored by footballlive.ng on Friday morning that Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has to make himself familiar with the Libyans’ style and tactics in order to stand any chance of overcoming them next weekend.
Speaking his mind ahead of the October 13 first leg in Uyo and October 16 reverse fixture in Sfax, Tunisia, Sia1 added that Rohr should study both the strengths and weaknesses of the Libyan side in order to outline his tactics for both matches.
Siasia, who won silver with the Flying Eagles at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2005 as well as silver at the 2008 Olympics and bronze at the same level in Brazil 2014, said it would be wrong of the Eagles to take their opponents for granted.
The former striker, who failed to qualify Nigeria for AFCON 2012 as Eagles’ head coach and for Equatorial Guinea 2017 as interim handler of the side, said making it to Cameroon 2019 is a task that must be accomplished.
Siasia stressed: “Everyone wants to qualify for the Nations Cup, we all want Nigeria to be there, but Libya also want to be there.
“That’s why we must not underrate them. We have to study them to be familiar with them, so that we will know how to handle them.
“We must know their strengths and their weaknesses. Let us know how to plan the right tactics to stop them, and I believe our targets will be achieved.”
