Six points against Libya or nothing. -Fashanu

Date:

Former England international John Fashanu says the Nigeria Libya 2019 Africa Cup of Nations double header is a very important fixture for the Super Eagles and he believes the team has what it takes to get the maximum six points from both ties in Uyo today and in Sfax, Tunisia on Tuesday October 16.

The ex Wimbledon of England striker says the game will also be the first valid test of the Eagles might since playing at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. “The Nigeria Libya match is a very important match. It is important because it will tell everybody whether we’ve come up as a team or gone down.”

Fashanu insists that the team has everything it takes to get the maximum points against the Mediterranean knights. “I think if we can’t get 6 points against Libya I think we don’t deserve to be at the competition. Libya is not a force to be reckoned with in the world of football and if we lose or get a draw against them then we need to go back to the drawing board.”

Fashanu has also praised the performance of Alex Iwobi this season at The Arsenal saying the Super Eagles winger when he comes on age will be ranked at the level of the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. “Alex is a player that has done wonderfully well, he’s had a magnificent time, I am sure he is going to be up with the Lionel Messi’s, the Cristiano Ronaldo’s when the time comes because he has the potentials.

We are all watching him, waiting for him to explode with the talents he’s got. That boy makes us proud to be Nigerian. He is a great player.”
