Sodje Urges Osimhen to Tame His Temper

Date:

Nigerian football sensation Victor Osimhen found himself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons over the weekend.

Following a missed penalty during Napoli’s clash with Bologna and an ensuing heated exchange with manager Rudi Garcia after being substituted, ex-Super Eagles international Sam Sodje weighed in on the situation with some candid advice.

Sodje, who has witnessed his fair share of the beautiful game’s highs and lows, didn’t mince words when he addressed Osimhen’s behavior.

He criticized the young forward’s public display of frustration, stating that it went against the spirit of any football club and predicted impending fines.

Drawing from his own experiences, Sodje urged Osimhen to shed this negative aspect of his game.

“Let’s be honest, Osimhen has that behaviour. We all have that kind of behaviour but you have to cut it down. The more you become famous or the more you play well, you have to make sure you control your temper,” the former Super Eagles defender said.

“I think that’s wrong. No players is bigger than the club; no matter how big you are. So I think that thing he showed in public is against any football club.

“Definitely they will fine him. But he needs to take that out of his game because I’ve seen him a couple of times, apart from this manager, the former manager as well, Osimhen has that in his locker.”

“We all have that kind of attitude, but the more you go in football, you get to cut that out. And I think he should try his best to cut it out and the only people who will tell him, are his inner circle you know, once they play for the higher level, they don’t listen to Ex-Players.”

“That’s when people close to him have to advise him and say, listen, to be that top player, you have to take that away. At the same time, we’re not taking away the passion, We’re just saying to him that bad attitude of talking back to coaches has to go away. It really has to.”
