Sports Federations to Miss Out on 2024 Budget Allocation – John Enoh

Date:

Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, has announced that over 30 sports federations in Nigeria will not receive their annual budget allocation for 2024.

He revealed that all the funds have been exhausted on the 2023 All African Games held in Ghana.

Speaking during a media parley with sports writers at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, Enoh stated, “The 2024 sports federations’ budget, which is captured under sporting activities in the Ministry’s budget, has been spent on the All African Games.”

He added, “The implication is that we have to run the rest of 2024 without funding for the federations. This, of course, is different from the budget for Olympic qualification, which covers expenses for the qualification games for the 2024 Olympics.

“No sports federation was denied funds for Olympic Games qualifiers because participation is required for qualification.”

At the 2023 All African Games, Team Nigeria secured a second-place finish in the final medal table with 120 medals (47 gold, 33 silver, and 40 bronze).
