A member of the executive committee of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Yusuf Ahmed Fresh, has thrown his weight behind the maiden Stephen Keshi Memorial U17 Football Championship from June 1 to 7 in Benin City, Edo State capital.
Fresh, who is the Chairman of the NFF Technical Committee, said he is behind a project to immortalize Nigeria’s longest serving skipper.
The competition is part of activities rolled by National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers in conjunction with Stephen Keshi Football and Vocational Training Centre to mark the second anniversary of late former captain and coach’s death.
Fresh, who is also a patron of the Nigeria players union, assured the union of his support. said he is delighted to be given the opportunity to be part of those doing something to immortalize the contributions, legacies and memories of late Keshi.
The NFF board member, who is known for grassroots football development contributions and promotion of football in the country, said he is in full support of the tournament that has been endorsed by Nigeria Football Federation as an annual event.
A release signed by the union’s Assistant General-Secretary, Comrade Danladi Musa noted that 16 teams across the country have indicated interest to participate in the tournament.
Musa further stated: “There is no doubt that the tournament will serve as most veritable platform for the discovery and nurturing of hundreds of Keshi’s in the nearest future.”
