Delta State government has stepped up efforts to give Stephen Keshi Stadium in their capital, Asaba, a befitting look for the final stages of the Africa Athletics Championship as well as for future sporting events and football matches at the ultra-modern arena.
Towards that end, officials have confirmed that equipment for the flood lights and scoreboard of the edifice will be installed in another 24 hours.
This comes after the construction firm handling the project failed to meet the opening day deadline, which officials said was because a ship bearing cargo containing the equipment was stranded on high seas for three weeks.
“The equipment spent three weeks at the sea as the ship was waiting clearance to berth. The ship did not get clearance to berth and deliver the cargo.
“The Delta State government has spent a lot of money to ensure that the championships run without any hitch, and the container is already in Asaba and ready for installation
“By Wednesday the technicians already received them and we are hoping that within 24 hours we will have the score board and flood lights,” the official posited.
