Steven Pienaar, South African fans fear Iwobi’s form

Date:

South African football Legend Steven Pienaar has warned Bafana Bafana of South Africa to be weary of the threat Nigerian international Alex Iwobi will bring to the crucial 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture on Saturday November 17 in Johannesburg.

Pienaar who had a long spell in the English Premier league playing for Everton, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur insists that Iwobi’s current form for his club, Arsenal is extremely frightening with his current confidence certainly on a continuous rise.

Iwobi came on as a second half substitute for Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the 68th minute and provided the assist that led to Arsenal’s equalizer in the match against Liverpool on Saturday.

In a series of tweets, the former Bafana Bafana star wrote “Every time I watch Iwobi I’m on the edge of my chair. Baller.” Pienaar also went on to taunt Iwobi’s uncle Jay Jay Okocha in another tweet. “That pass from Alex Iwobi was hot. I’m 100% sure Jay Jay is smiling wherever he is.”

South African football fans who commented under the Pienaar’s tweet also showed concern about the Arsenal star’s quality and form. Charlie mavhaga @Charlie_mavhaga “And he is playing our beloved bafana bafana in just 2 weeks time..problem”

Nqobizwe Shipanga @Enn_que “He will get a slight knock soon, so he won’t be available. Minus 1 problem”.

Iwobi has been listed by Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr as one of the players to feature in the AFCON qualifier in Johannesburg.
