Sunshine Stars emerged champions of the 6th edition of Gold Cup Preseason Tourney after recording a 1:0 victory over Kwara United on Saturday.
The opening half saw both teams failed to create any spark, as they tried to gain the control of the game by holding on to possession.
The first half ended with both team , struggled to create any meaning chances but Sunshine Stars looked the better side.
The first chance of the second half fell to Kwara United‘s midfielderSunday Emmanuel as he was clear on goal, but fired his shotstraight into the hand goalkeeper Emmanuel Ariyo.
Sunshine Stars took the lead in the 62nd minute as Adedipe Kehinde header beat Kwara United goalkeeper Kenneth Okoli.
The Owena Waves held on to their lead firmly, As they limit Kwara United to few half chances for remainder of the game.
The Kabiru Dogo side went home with a cheque of Three Hundred Thousand Naira (#300, 000) and trophy while the Bala Abubakar’s boys got a sum of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (#200, 000) for finishing as runners up.
Sunshine Stars‘s Anthony Omaka was named the most valuable player of the tournament, while the top scorer award went to Segun Alebiosu of Kwara United were rewarded for their individual brilliance.
