The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been placed in Group D for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where they will face familiar opponents from the ongoing FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The group includes Benin Republic, Rwanda, and Libya.
Benin Republic, led by former Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr, recently secured a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier last month, adding a layer of familiarity and challenge for the Super Eagles. The group is completed by Rwanda, also in the same group as the Super Eagles for the World Cup qualifiers and Libya.
The draw ceremony for the qualifiers took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Thursday afternoon. The qualifying matches will begin in September 2025 and continue through November 2025. The 2025 AFCON tournament is scheduled to be played between December 21, 2025, and January 18, 2026.
Nigeria will be looking to secure their place in the prestigious tournament and improve on their past performances, aiming for success in the upcoming qualifiers and the main competition.
