The Super Eagles have received a boost ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin with the return of William Troost-Ekong to training.
Troost-Ekong had been sidelined since undergoing surgery for an injury sustained during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. He was named Player of the Tournament after an impressive performance, including three goals scored for Super Eagles.
The 30 year-old defender was expected to miss the remainder of the 2022/23 season but his quick recovery has seen him return to training earlier than anticipated and is now available for PAOK Salonica’s final three league games of the season.
Troost-Ekong’s return will be a big addition to the Super Eagles, who are yet to secure a win in the World Cup qualifiers.
This will help bolster the team’s defensive lineup and experience as they seek to secure crucial victories in their upcoming matches.
