Super Eagles Scorecard: Onyekuru scores a hatrick, Ndid sees yellow, Balogun benched, Iwobi flies with Arsenal.

Date:

Nigerian international Wilfred Ndidi was in action for Leicester City in the team’s 4 – 3 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English premier League on Saturday. The Nigerian star played the entire duration of the match and was cautioned by referee Christopher Kavanagh in the 58th minute of the encounter.

Wilfred Ndidi’s club mate and fellow Super Eagles Kelechi Iheanacho stated from the bench and was introduced into the match in the 83rd minute for defender Danny Simpson but could not help his team get the needed points.

Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun was an unused substitute in Brighton and Hove Albion’s away loss to resurgent Manchester United in the EPL on Saturday. Manager Chris Houghton preferred the center back pairing of Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk to that of the Nigerian international. Balogun has featured eight times this season for the Seagulls scoring once.

Super Eagles star Isaac Success was a second half substitute for Watford as the Hornets played out a goalless draw in the EPL on Saturday in a match that was the only game on the day to finish without a goal. Success was introduced into the game in the 57th minute for midfielder Ken Sema.

In Saturday’s final EPL match Nigerian international Alex Iwobi was a second half substitute as Arsenal defeated London rivals Chelsea 2 – 0 at the Emirates stadium to keep their top four hopes alive.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery preferred the midfield partnership of Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi to the tricky Nigerian but the youngster was introduced in the second half to add more creative prowess to the team. Iwobi came on for Alexander Lacazette in the 67th minute to make his 20th appearances for the club where he has scored twice.

In the championship, Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo played all 90 minutes as Stoke City returned to winning ways beating Leeds United 2 – 1 at the Bet365 stadium. Stoke City had previously gone six games without a win in all competition.

Super Eagles striker Henry Onyekuru scored his first professional hatrick on Saturday in the Turkish Super Lig as Galatasaray walloped Ankaragucu 6 – 0 at the Turk Telecom stadium.

The Nigerian international has been instrumental for the Turkish club since joining on loan from English Premier League side Everton.

Nigerian international William Troost-Ekong was in the heart of the Udinese defense but was unable to help the team gain any point as they lost 2 – 1 at home to Parma in the Italian Serie A on Saturday.

Goals from Roberto Inglese and former Arsenal winger Gervinho was enough to hand Parma the valuable three points while Stephano Okaka scored Udinese’s only goal of the match.

Super Eagles defender Ola Aina played all 90 minutes for Italian side Torino on Saturday but was unable to help them salvage any points as they fell 3 – 2 to AS Roma in a thrilling and feisty encounter. Aina has been a revelation for the Seria side since joining them on loan from EPL giant Chelsea on a season long loan deal.

Nigerian striker Simeon Nwankwo fired blanks as Crotone failed to get a win at home in the Italian Serie B against Cittadella despite playing 90 minutes. Simi as he is fondly called has been on the radar of some clubs in Europe with the transfer window currently open.

Nigeria U-23 star Sadiq Umar played 90 minutes for Perugia in the Italian Serie B but his failure to score saw his team fall at home to Brescia 2 – 0. Umar’s compatriot Michael Stephen also saw 90 minutes of action in the encounter. Umar is on loan from serie A giants Roma.
