Super Eagles vice-captain, William Troost-Ekong, underwent successful surgery in Finland on Tuesday night following a hamstring injury sustained during Nigeria’s second game against Cote d’Ivoire at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite the injury, Troost-Ekong played a crucial role in six out of Super Eagles’ seven games in Cote d’Ivoire, contributing significantly to Nigeria’s second-place finish.
The defender, named Player of the Tournament, is currently the highest-scoring defender in AFCON history. Troost-Ekong is expected to return to action towards the end of the season.
