The Super Eagles of Nigeria are now four points off the top spot in Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifying series in the African zone following a shock 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic on Monday.
However, Tuesday’s results further complicated their situation.
South Africa secured a 3-1 win over Zimbabwe, while Rwanda edged out Lesotho with a 1-0 victory.
These outcomes mean that Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin now lead the group with seven points each. Lesotho is in fourth place with five points, leaving Nigeria in fifth place with just three points.
With only three points from four fixtures, Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the tournament have significantly diminished.
The Super Eagles must overcome a considerable difficulties to revive their World Cup qualifying campaign.
