Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has successfully undergone surgery on her right foot in Saudi Arabia.
Plumptre sustained the injury while representing Saudi club Al Ittihad last month, forcing her to miss Nigeria’s 2024 Olympic Games qualifier against the Banyana Banyana of South Africa.
Confirming the surgery, a statement by the club said, “Ashleigh Plumptre a player from the Ittihad Women’s Football Team, has successfully undergone right foot surgery.
“She will now begin a therapeutic and rehabilitation program to prepare her return to training sessions.”
Taking to social media to share the news of her surgery, Plumptre expressed gratitude to Al Ittihad, the national team, and her fans for their unwavering support throughout her recovery journey.
“Thank you to everyone at @ittiladiesclub and to Dr. Pieter D’Hooge at @Aspetar for supporting me through my first surgery,” she wrote. “It’s been a long time coming trying to get answers, but I’m so grateful to now be at this stage.”
Addressing her teammates and Nigerian fans, Plumptre expressed appreciation for their patience and understanding during her absence. She added, “I can’t wait to be back healthy with you all.”
Plumptre also extended her gratitude to her club, Al Ittihad, emphasizing the support she received from her teammates and staff.
