Rosengard midfielder Halimatu Ayinde has expressed her disappointment at missing the 2024 Olympic in Paris with the Super Falcons due to injury.
The three-time WAFCON winner suffered a knee injury ahead of the training camp, and her club confirmed that she won’t be joining the national team.
The Kaduna-born star had recently returned from injury setbacks following the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, only to face another spell on the sidelines.
In a post on her social media, Ayinde stated;
“With a heavy heart, I announce I won’t be part of the Super Falcons for the Olympics. I’m deeply grateful to FC Rosengård and my teammates for their support and love. Best of luck to my fellow Super Falcons. I’ll be cheering for you and will return stronger. Go Super Falcons.”
Randy Waldrum is expected to replace Ayinde with one of the alternate players in the squad; Jumoke Alani (Nasarawa Amazons), Ifeoma Onumonu (Utah Royals, USA), Gift Monday (Costa Adeje Tenerife Egatesa, Spain), or Morufa Ademola (Rivers Angels).
