Super Falcons not scared of World cup opponents. -Okobi

Date:

Super Falcons midfielder Ngozi Okobi says she is not bothered about the likely opponents the team will face at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France if the team gets quality and adequate preparation ahead of the competition.

The Falcons are yet to translate their domination on the African stage to the global scene but with the spark shown at the last edition of the tournament in 2015 where Nigeria had 3 -3 comeback draw against Sweden, Okobi believes that if efforts are put into preparing the girls adequately, they will deliver results in France.

Okobi said. “I don’t care about who we are going to play at the World Cup in the group stage and I say this as a player because I know we have players that are capable. All we need is just good preparation for the girls and I promise it is going to be a different outing this time around.”

The Falcons at the last world cup despite getting just one point shocked the world in their first game playing a 3 – 3 draw against Sweden before losing 2 – 0 to Australia and just 1 – 0 to eventual winners USA and Okobi who was the player of the match against Sweden said it will be lovely to see the team build on the success of the last campaign. “During the last World Cup we sent a message to the World when we played Sweden but we made a mistake because if we had continued preparation for the next edition since then, by now we would have been extremely good ahead of next year’s World Cup.

It is not too late yet. I still believe so much in the girls and the coaches’ are really fantastic too so I think with more preparation, it is going to be easy for us in France.”

During his visit to the camp of the Super Falcons in Ghana, president of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick had promised the ladies a world cup preparation that even the Super Eagles will be jealous of.
