Super Falcons players are set to receive financial rewards for their performance in the FIFA Women’s World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand.
FIFA introduced appearance fees for players participating in the tournament, and each Super Falcons player is entitled to a $30,000 appearance fee.
Additionally, for reaching the Round of 16, players were initially entitled to $60,000 each.
However, it’s reported that players received $40,500 instead of the agreed-upon $60,000 due to a deduction of almost $20,000 for tax payable to the Australian government for teams that camped in Australia.
The deduction did not apply to teams that camped in New Zealand.
NFF spokesperson, Ademola Olajire provided reasons for the deduction and also confirmed the news “their 60k fee is subject to a whopping 32.5% withholding tax deduction from @ato_gov_au. This means the players are only being paid $42,500 each.”
The Super Falcons reached the Round of 16, marking their third appearance in the knockout stage in the tournament’s history.
