Nigerian international Taiwo Awoniyi continued his scoring form in Belgium as his goal was enough for Royal Excel Mouscron as they defeated bottom-placed Lokeren by a goal to nil on Saturday.
Awoniyi who joined Royal Excel Mouscron from Liverpool after an unsuccessful six months spell with Gent in the first half of the season has proved to be the team’s messiah helping the club win all six matches played in 2019 and scoring five times so far.
Royal Excel Mouscron took the lead through Awoniyi in the 52nd minute of the encounter to hand his club the maximum three points. Awoniyi who was carded in the 22nd minute of the game had a glorious chance to score his second goal in the 81st minute but his well-taken shot was deflected off the post.
The former U-17 World Cup winner has scored five goals in six games for the 10th placed team since joining in January of 2019. Royal Excel Mouscron since the signing of Awoniyi has been the most in-form team in Belgium winning all six games played in 2019.
