Super Eagles players, Nathan Tella and Victor Boniface took to the pitch for Bayer Leverkusen, but their efforts were not enough as their team suffered a 3-2 defeat to RB Leipzig at the Bay Arena.
Bayer Leverkusen, coming off a strong start to the season with a comeback victory over Bayer Monchengladbach, faced a tougher challenge against Leipzig on Saturday.
Coach Xabi Alonso started Nigerian striker Boniface in the lineup, while Tella began the match on the bench.
Leverkusen dominated much of the first half, with Jeremie Frimpong breaking the deadlock in the 39th minute.
Boniface nearly extended the lead in the 43rd minute with an acrobatic attempt inside the box, but it missed the target.
Alejandro Grimaldo doubled Leverkusen’s lead just two minutes later, seemingly putting them in control. However, Leipzig’s Kevin Kampl scored in stoppage time to keep the visitors within reach.
The match ended in disappointment for Leverkusen, as they were unable to hold on to their lead, ultimately falling 3-2 to a resilient RB Leipzig.
