Enyimba FC booked their place in the semi-final of the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup in fine style with a 5-1 second-leg win over Rayon Sports on Sunday in Aba.
The first-leg in Kigali ended goalless and Enyimba, who are Nigeria’s only surviving team on the continent this year, knew they had their job cut out.
Then suddenly, there were five different goal scorers for the Aba Elephants on the day as they equalled the total number of goals they scored in the group stage in one game.
Stanley Dimgba opened scoring for the hosts inside the opening 12 minutes as they got underway as they’d hoped to.
However, the visitors responded through Caleb Bimenyimana 13 minutes later. That goal sparked off the onslaught as Enyimba brought down the full wrath of their attack on a hapless Rayon defence.
Ikouwem Udoh restored Enyimba’s lead to go into the break, but with the Rwandan side holding on to a slim hope, they could return to level.
Those thoughts were quickly extinguished as defender, Sunday Adetunji scored with just three minutes after the interval.
Goals on the hour mark and in the 80th minutes by Joseph Osadiaye and Isiaka Oladuntoye sealed the emphatic win.
For the Nigerian side, they now await the winner between Raja Casablanca and CARA Brazzaville.
