No Minutes? No Problem. I’ll Keep Fighting – Chukwueze
Super Eagles and AC Milan winger, Samuel Chukwueze has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to Nigeria’s national team.
Chukwueze, who opened up on his enduring passion for Nigeria after seven years of national duty, declared that wearing the green-and-white jersey remains one of the greatest honors of his career—no matter the role he’s asked to play.
In a heartfelt reflection on his international journey so far, the 25-year-old winger (who made his Super Eagles debut in 2018) insisted that he still approaches every national team call-up with humility, hunger, and hope, even in the face of form dips or limited playing time.
“This Nigerian jersey, you serve it very well with honor,” Chukwueze said.
“I think this jersey is too precious.”
Seven Years In, Still Hungry to Represent
Now in his seventh year with the senior team, Samuel Chukwueze admitted that competition within the squad is stiff, with new talents constantly emerging, but cited that his mindset has remained the same since day one: fight, earn, repeat.
“You know, when you’re in the national team, you have to fight for every moment, every day,” he explained.
“Because it’s a privilege to represent your country.”
”If you lose your position, another person is going to take over, there are so many good players out there that want this opportunity.”
‘Even Two Minutes Matter’ – Chukwueze
Chukwueze, who was part of the Super Eagles squad for the 2019 and 2023 AFCON tournaments, added that the amount of playing time doesn’t define his commitment.
Whether starting or coming off the bench, the AC Milan forward says every appearance counts.
“I don’t care how it’s going to be — two minutes, three minutes. Even if I don’t play, I know I’m going to keep fighting to come back for it.”
While his recent performances have come under scrutiny both at club and country levels, Chukwueze shed more light on the emotional weight and personal pride many Nigerian players attach to international duty.
As Nigeria prepares for major qualifiers in the coming months under new head coach Eric Chelle, Chukwueze will be hoping to remain in the conversation—and continue wearing the “too precious” jersey that fuels his every stride.
