Thomas Tuchel Announced as England’s New Head Coach

Date:

The Football Association (FA) has confirmed the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as England’s new head coach, with the German set to officially begin his role on January 1, 2025.

Tuchel replaces Gareth Southgate, who stepped down after England’s defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

Interim boss Lee Carsley will continue to lead the team for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland in November.

The 51-year old is the former manager of Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich.

“I am very proud to have been given the honour of leading the England team.”

”I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already.”

”To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege, and the opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting.”

Tuchel’s assistant coach will be Anthony Barry, who has worked with him at both Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

The FA considers Tuchel’s arrival a major success, given his proven track record of delivering results at both domestic and international levels, including winning 11 major honours, most notably the 2021 UEFA Champions League with Chelsea.

FA Chief Executive Mark Bullingham is pleased with  the appointment.

“We are thrilled to have hired Thomas Tuchel, one of the best coaches in the world, and Anthony Barry, one of the best English coaches, to support him.”

”Our recruitment process was thorough, and Thomas stood out with his vast expertise and drive.”

”We believe they will give us the best possible chance to win the World Cup in 2026.”

Tuchel’s arrival is expected to be a new chapter for England as they look ahead to the 2026 FIFA World Cup with hopes of claiming their first major international trophy since 1966.
