Nigeria’s under-15 national team, Future Eagles are billed to fly into Algeria’s capital, Algiers on Monday, for participation in the football event of the 3rd African Youth Games, scheduled to hold from July 19th to 28th.
Coach of the side, Danladi Nasidi Alana will lead the squad in search of gold, along with other able hands in the technical crew, which also has Usman Haruna ‘Ilerika’ (assistant coach) and Ernest Salome (goalkeepers’ trainer).
A total of 18 players have been named for the trip, with the task of retaining the football gold Nigeria won at the games for youths across the continent at the last edition.
The players include Obinna Ajah, Lateef Omidiji, Oluwatobi Adeleke, Ibrahim Mohammed, Moses Aluko, Sulaimon Lawal, Bala Ezekiel, Umar Suleiman and Samson Komolafe.
Others are Ismail Ayodele, Ajir Sesugh, Johnmark Aule, Dauda Hamza, Usman Ibrahim, Ahmed Abdulhakim, Anthony Okoronkwo, Divine Nwachukwu and Chidera Ejiofor.
Future Eagles team administrator, Adewale Adeyinka said before the contingent left Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos on Sunday that the team will make the country proud in Algieria.
He enthused that all 18 players and four officials in the squad are in excellent spirit to defend the football gold that Nigeria first won at the 2nd African Youth Games in Gaborone, Botswana four years ago.
Nigeria won four of five matches, drawing the other, to amass the highest number of points and emerge champions at Gaborone 2014, in which only six countries sent football squads.
“There are no fixtures yet for this year’s edition. The fixtures will be done when we arrive in Algiers,” Adeyinka disclosed.
