Uganda stops Eagles Chukwueze, Kalu shines in Asaba

Date:

Nigeria’s Super Eagles failed to take their chances and beat the Cranes of Uganda in an international friendly played at the Stephen Keshi stadium in Asaba on Tuesday as the match ended goalless after 90 minutes.

Technical adviser of the team Gernot Rohr made six changes to the team that played a 1 – 1 draw against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Saturday at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Franco-German tactician gave debut start to 2015 U-17 FIFA World Cup stars Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen who both proved their mettle in the first 45 minute of the encounter.

The newly invited Super Eagles winger made his first senior national team debut with an impressive and explosive display but the Eagles were unable to take their chances in the first half.

The Villarreal revelation entertained the Asaba fans with some eye-catching moves and balance on the ball before being substituted at half time of the encounter.

The Cranes of Uganda came into the match unbeaten in all qualifying games which heralded their qualification for the 2019 AFCON to be staged in Cameroon in 2019. The team tutored by Sebastien Desabre has only conceded twice in 10 matches.

Uganda ran out one nil winners the last time both teams met in an international friendly at the Godswill Akpabio international stadium in Uyo in 2015.
