Former under-23 national team midfielder, Usman Mohammed has expressed hope that his performance and goal against Atletico Madrid of Spain on Tuesday were good enough to impress Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr.
Although the former FC Taraba of Jalingo captain admits Rohr has already rolled out his provisional list for the World Cup, he is staying upbeat that the Franco-German gaffer could have been so amazed to call him up miraculously.
Usman, who has already made his full international debut in a friendly against Niger in 2015 and featured at the Rio Olympics, where Nigeria won a bronze medal, says he would be happy to get a late call for Russia 2018.
The 24-year-old Sarpsborg 08 of Norway midfielder also explained the skills behind his super goal in the match, as he was unhurried and wriggled past the Atletico defenders right inside the box before he finished off a solo effort.
Usman enthused: “It was my self-belief. One of my coaches always told me not to be in a hurry when I’m with the ball inside the box.
“My goal is a message, every day I am pushing to play for Super Eagles. I have scored goals like this even in Europe and I was so confident I could do it again.
“I’m so excited to be back with the national team. I will always be available for my country.”
