Deportivo La Coruna of Spain goalkeeper, Francis Odinaka Uzoho may be in contention for Nigeria’s number one jersey at this year’s world cup, but he will have to battle it out with Chippa united of South Africa shot-stopper, Daniel Akpeyi.
Both keepers are said to be in contention ahead of Enyimba of Aba’s Ikechukwu Ezenwa, whose status as a home-based player might have knocked down the pecking order.
Further pointes in this direction has emerged from reports that Eagles’ gaffer, Gernot Rohr has insisted on detailing his trainers on Uzoho and Akpeyi, while Ezenwa has been left to fend for himself.
Consequently, Eagles assistant goalkeepers’ trainer, Alloy Agu will have special drills with Akpeyi at his base in South Africa, while the head trainer, Italian veteran, Enrico Pionetti will drill Uzoho in Spain.
It is the second time that Rohr has posted Pionetti to drill Uzoho who keeps goal for the B team of Spanish LaLiga side Deportivo La Coruna who are campaigning in the third division in Spain.
Nonetheless, all three keepers are presently in the running to pick slots in the squad for the World Cup as Rohr has repeatedly mentioned them as integral members of his team.
