Enyimba of Aba goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa has surprisingly thrown his weight behind his rival in the Super Eagles, Francis Odinaka Uzoho to excel, as the former FC IFeanyi ubah of Nnewi shot-stopper says Nigeria’s new first choice will improve at the World Cup.
Rather than spite Uzoho for popping from the blue to take the Eagles’ top spot from him, Ezenwa is backing the Spain-based former Golden Eaglets’ third choice to recover from the setback of Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Croatia.
Ezenwa drew on positives from the match, as no injuries were recorded, while also stating that he is ready any time he gets called upon because he still dreams of playing a World Cup game.
He stressed that the Eagles are very focused on making it out of Group D and encouraged Uzoho to grow in confidence and not allow the result affect him, as he believes the lad’s performance was very good despite conceding two goals.
Ezenwa declared: “Uzoho did very well despite losing 2-0 on the night. He should remain focused and not allow the defeat weigh him down.
“I have been encouraging him because I see him as a younger brother as he did his best but the two goals he conceded were not chances anyone would say he should have saved.
“It’s a big lesson for us. We have taken the positives from the game and moved on. The focus now is on our next game against Iceland.
“We remain focus as a team so as not to allow the defeat against Croatia weigh us down because we got two winnable matches ahead.”
