Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface was on target for Bayer Leverkusen in their Bundesliga clash against newly-promoted Holstein Kiel, but his goal wasn’t enough as the match ended in a 2-2 draw at the BayArena.
Boniface, fresh off scoring in midweek against AC Milan, opened the scoring in the 4th minute after a swift counter-attack. Florian Wirtz initiated the play, feeding Exequiel Palacios, who set up Boniface to strike home with power from close range.
Bayer Leverkusen quickly doubled their lead just four minutes later through Jonas Hofmann, making it seem like a one-sided contest.
Victor Boniface appeared to have scored his second of the game in the 26th minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside in the build-up.
Leverkusen bottled their early dominance, allowing Holstein Kiel back into the game, with Max Geschwill pulling one back before halftime.
The visitors equalized in the 69th minute, leveling the score at 2-2.
Boniface was substituted for Patrik Schick shortly after, but the change didn’t alter the outcome as Leverkusen had to settle for a disappointing draw.
Boniface’s goal brings his Bundesliga tally to four this season, but Leverkusen will see this result as a missed opportunity.
Later that night after the game, the 23-year-old was announced and named in Super Eagles head Coach, Augustine Eguavoen’s 23-man Squad for the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers clash against Libya.
