Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface played the hero yet again for Bayer Leverkusen, scoring an injury time winner in their 4-3 comeback victory over Wolfsburg at BayArena on Sunday.
Leverkusen, coming off a 4-0 Champions League win over Feyenoord, faced early trouble when Nordi Mukiele scored an own goal to give Wolfsburg a fifth-minute lead.
Bayer responded quickly with goals from Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Tah, only for Wolfsburg to take a 3-2 lead into halftime through Sebastiaan Bornauw and Mattias Svanberg.
In the second half, Piero Hincapie equalized for Leverkusen, and despite multiple chances, the match seemed headed for a draw.
Victor Boniface, who was subbed on in the 68th minute, found the breakthrough in the 88th minute, slotting home the winner after a scramble in the box.
After the match, the 23-year old revealed the match was a difficult one to win.
“We knew how Wolfsburg would perform and what to expect.
” At half-time, we agreed again because we really wanted to turn the game around for our fans. We did that. Of course, we are very happy now.”
