Victor Osimhen was notably absent from Napoli’s official 23-man squad for the current Serie A season, following the collapse of his expected transfer away from the club.
The Nigerian striker, who played a key role in Napoli’s Scudetto-winning campaign two seasons ago with 26 goals, now finds himself sidelined as he remains at the club despite being eager to move on.
The 25-year-old had signed a contract extension in December, committing to Napoli until 2026, with a release clause reportedly set at €130 million.
However, tensions have risen since, and although there was interest from clubs like Chelsea and Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli, a deal failed to materialize before the transfer window closed.
Napoli reportedly rejected Al Ahli’s offer for Victor Osimhen, who had been heavily linked with a move to either the Saudi club or Chelsea.
Al Ahli eventually turned their attention elsewhere, securing Ivan Toney from Brentford for £40 million ($53m).
Meanwhile, Osimhen’s future remains uncertain, as he is currently not part of Napoli’s plans for the season.
