Galatasaray have confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is facing a fitness setback, which could impact his availability for Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Libya.
Osimhen picked up an injury during Galatasaray’s 3-3 Super Lig draw with Kasımpaşa on September 28, where he scored twice in the first half before being substituted at halftime due to discomfort in his leg.
After the match, the forward assuring fans he was “fine”, however, Galatasaray’s medical team later diagnosed a strain and minor bleeding in his left posterior muscle.
As a result, Victor Osimhen is set to miss upcoming key fixtures for the Turkish giants, including their UEFA Europa League clash against Rigas FC on October 3 and the Super Lig game against Alanyaspor on October 6.
His injury also puts his participation in Nigeria’s crucial AFCON qualifiers at risk. The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Libya in Uyo on October 11 and then play the return leg in Benghazi on October 15.
