Victor Osimhen Joins Galatasaray on Loan: A New Chapter Begins

Date:

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, has officially joined Turkish football giants Galatasaray on a loan deal from Napoli.

Osimhen signed his contract at Galatasaray on Wednesday to officially seal the deal from his side.

He will wear the shirt number 45.

Details of the Loan Deal

Osimhen’s loan to Galatasaray is set to last until June 2025, with the Turkish club covering his annual salary, which is estimated to be around €9-10 million.

The deal does not include a buy option, meaning the striker is expected to return to Napoli after the loan period.

Additionally, a new release clause of €75 million has been added to Osimhen’s contract, effective from 2025, with Napoli holding the option to extend his contract until 2027.

A Difficult Summer for Osimhen

The loan move follows a challenging summer for Osimhen. He was linked with transfers to clubs like Al Ahli and Chelsea, but none of these moves materialized.

The situation worsened when a fallout with Napoli led to his exclusion from their Serie A squad.

Just a year ago, Osimhen was one of the most sought-after players in football after leading Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years.

Journey with Napoli

Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in July 2020 for a reported fee of £73 million, making him the most expensive African player in history.

In his first season, he scored 10 goals, and after a coaching change, he improved his performance, netting 18 goals in his second season.

His standout year came in the 2022-23 season, where he scored 31 goals in all competitions, helping Napoli secure the Serie A title.

This achievement also earned him the title of Serie A’s top scorer and the African Player of the Year award in December 2023.

What Lies Ahead

Victor Osimhen aims to make a strong impact in his loan spell in Turkey with club side, Galatasaray.

With a January break clause included in the loan deal, top clubs may have the opportunity to sign him during the winter transfer window.
