Super Falcons’ head coach, Randy Waldrum, remains confident in his team’s ability to secure their spot in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, despite only managing a narrow 1-0 victory over Banyana Banyana in the first leg of their qualifier.
The Super Falcons displayed dominance throughout the match in Abuja, with Rasheedat Ajibade’s penalty being the sole goal of the game. Despite the missed opportunities to extend their lead, Waldrum believes his team will deliver in the second leg in Pretoria.
Speaking to the media after the match, Waldrum stated, “There is no difference if we would have won by two goals instead of one. I still feel like we have to go and get a result there. We don’t want to go and sit back and try to defend and hold on to this victory.”
Emphasizing the team’s ambition to reaffirm their status as Africa’s best, Waldrum added, “I think we still want to show that we are the best team in Africa and we are the better team. I thought we showed that tonight, and we’ll show it again next week.”
