English Championship side Watford FC has mutually agreed to terminate the contract of Nigeria’s Super Eagles winger Samuel Kalu.
Watford confirmed the departure on its official website, stating that both parties have agreed to part ways.
Kalu, 27, joined Watford from Bordeaux for approximately £2.25 million in January 2022. However, recurring injuries limited his impact, and he made just 13 appearances for the club.
Last season, Kalu was loaned to Swiss side Lausanne, where he contributed five goal involvements in 21 appearances. The club has now confirmed that he will leave permanently.
Following the termination of his contract on August 30, Kalu is free to sign with a new club even after the close of the summer transfer window.
A member of Nigeria’s squad at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Kalu has played 16 games for the Super Eagles but has not been called up since a brief appearance in a 2022 World Cup qualifier against Central African Republic in October 2021.
