Following the Super Falcons’ qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, head coach Randy Waldrum has emphasized the need for extensive preparation, including a training camp in Europe, to ensure the team’s readiness for the prestigious tournament.
The nine-time African champions sealed their spot at Paris 2024 after a hard-fought 1-0 aggregate victory over perennial rivals, Banyana Banyana of South Africa.
With a challenging group comprising world champions Spain, Japan, and Brazil awaiting them at the Olympics, Waldrum stressed the importance of thorough preparation to compete effectively against formidable opposition.
Expressing his plea for adequate preparation resources, Waldrum stated, “My plea is to help us prepare properly. We need to camp in Europe, have proper training, proper transportation, and do things right.” Every team at the Olympics is top, like the World Cup, we’re in the ‘Group of Death’.”
He highlighted the significance of proper training facilities and logistics to ensure the Super Falcons are fully equipped to confront the top-tier competition awaiting them in Group C, likening their group stage challenge to the intensity of a ‘Group of Death’ scenario typically encountered in major tournaments like the World Cup.
